Created by a veteran educator of over 30 years, Power of Learning Press brings quality material for the classroom that is innovative and implemented with varying ability groups before being published. Most units are inquiry based and all are aligned to standards.
My personal experience is in the middle school with all ability groups. My primary focus, however, is the gifted population. The gifted child and social-emotional development formed the focus of my doctoral study. As such, many of the units offer differentiation for gifted students as well as for students who need extra support.
Believing in a student’s ability to construct their own learning, I employ a teaching style that allows students to engage themselves in education in such a way that they make the learning their own — thus deepening their understanding. Questioning is also essential in the classroom, and for that reason, simulations and problem-based learning are paramount.
In the end, all lessons from Power of Learning Press are teacher created and student tested and approved, and all lessons show the power of learning!

If you teach long enough, you compile a toolbox of ideas that bring together everything you’ve learned from other teachers and students. So, I developed Power of Learning Press to have a place where I can share with you my most successful curriculum in hopes that it makes your life a little easier. Let’s face it … we have so many hats to wear as teachers that a little bit of help to remove one hat is always welcome! Let my units and lessons take off one of those hats!
I’m in the suburbs of Chicago, and I teach in a middle school. Although my focus has always been social studies and language arts, I have taught science and math as well. Along the way, I won a couple awards – Local Teacher of the Year and Random House Teacher of the Year. I learned so much from my colleagues to earn those awards, and those ideas helped shape my teaching. I’ve found that I’m only as strong as the people that build my foundation. With all this support, I received my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Educational Leadership. Gifted education and social-emotional learning are my passions, and that’s probably because of my family and the impact giftedness has had on them.
When I’m not teaching or developing curriculum, I’m spending time with my family – especially my puppy, Tinker Bell, a very precious teddybear. I’ve directed 25 musicals, and design book covers. In other words, I don’t have a lot of spare time! I’m sure you have a similar story, and I hope to one day hear it.
