Getting to Know You

$5.00

The enclosed activities provide the opportunity to create the start of this student-teacher relationship. Each activity is loosely tied to geography in some way so that they can be completed either with the entire class using the same activity or allowing the students to pick the activity of choice. All materials, including assignment sheets with suggestions for differentiation are included.

In addition, activities can be easily adapted to remote learning and can all be completed without the use of technology. All activities have been vetted by several teachers over many years and have proven to be successful at the middle school level. The activities are also appropriate for upper elementary as well.

Enjoy the activities and all you learn about your students. I’m certain your students will enjoy doing them!

“Great way to start the year, AND a good way to get those basic landform lessons out of the way! I did both exercises and put the blueprints in their portfolio. Great conversation at conferences!” -Lucy M.

Description

Every year a new set of students join your classroom, and learning their names is not the only task ahead. According to research, building relationships with your students is the cornerstone on which education is based.

“A Review of Educational Research analysis of 46 studies found that strong teacher-student relationships were associated in both the short- and long-term with improvements on practically every measure schools care about: higher student academic engagement, attendance, grades, fewer disruptive behaviors . . .” (Education Week, 2019).

The enclosed activities provide the opportunity to create the start of this student-teacher relationship. Each activity is loosely tied to geography in some way so that they can be completed either with the entire class using the same activity or allowing the students to pick the activity of choice. Great for remote learning too! All materials, including assignment sheets with suggestions for differentiation are included.
